SensEye Shines at the 2025 Global Health Innovation Summit. At the 2025 Global Summit of the Global Consortium of Innovation and Engineering in Medicine, held at the I-Hotel Conference Center in Champaign, Illinois, Trinity College Dublin students Thomas Joyce, Emily Waldron, and Zaur Unsizada had the honor of presenting SensEye—an AI-powered solution aimed at making eye care accessible and affordable worldwide.Their participation was part of the prestigious $250,000 Global Health Innovation Grand Challenge, which featured over 50 student innovation teams from across the globe, each showcasing cutting-edge healthcare solutions with global impact.The summit hosted 456 attendees representing 33 institutions from 16 countries across 6 continents. Leaders from academia, industry, government, and philanthropy came together to shape the future of healthcare through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.

Judging Criteria

Desirability

◦ Does the project clearly address a meaningful and well-defined health or social challenge?
◦ Judges will consider how well the solution resonates with real user or community needs.

Feasibility

◦ Is the idea realistic within current constraints, and does the team have the right mix of skills to execute it?
◦ While not mandatory, teams with at least one member from the TCD School of Medicine are strongly encouraged for relevance.

Innovation

◦ How original or forward-thinking is the idea?
◦ Judges will look for creative approaches, use of technology, or new ways of solving persistent problems.

Viability

◦ Does the solution have long-term potential to create sustainable value or impact?
◦ Judges will assess whether the project has a pathway to scale or further development.

Team presentation

◦ How clearly and confidently did the team communicate their idea?
◦ This includes storytelling, structure, design of materials, and ability to answer questions effectively.

An interdisciplinary innovation program focused on tackling global health challenges. It’s designed for students at Trinity College Dublin, with a strong focus on the Medical School.
◦ Improving health outcomes in rural or underserved areas using AI
◦ Enhancing early disease detection
◦ Slowing/reversing disease progression in aging populations
◦ Creating low-cost diagnostic/therapeutic solutions for global scale
Open to TCD students across disciplines, but each team must include at least one Medical School student.
Access to the Open Incubator platform, ideation playbook, mentorship, workshops, and TCD’s innovation support.
Participants receive a Practitioner Badge. The winning team will represent TCD internationally in Illinois in 2025.
Projects are assessed on desirability, feasibility, innovation, viability, and presentation.
